Junior biotechnology major Josh Allman will be heading to Michigan State this summer as one of 15 undergraduates chosen nationwide to take part in a summer research internship. This 10-week program is funded by the national science foundation and allows students to conduct original research in the area of plant genomics. Projects focus on understanding the basic biology and genetics of plants, work with agriculturally important plants like tomatos and methods for developing biofuels.
Students in the program receive a $5000 stipend and free room and board and have the opportunity to attend weekly seminars and pizza lunches with the program's faculty and graduate students. The program culminates in a presentation given by each student on their work.

Summer research internships in the ecology of urban impacted ecosystems
Kent State University and the Holden Arboretum have announced their 2013 Research Experience for Undergraduates program for students interested in ecology and environmental science. Applications are due March 25, 2013.
The 10-week summer research internship will focus on terrestrial-aquatic linkages in urban impacted ecosystems. Students will participate in a mentored research project and professional development activities. Each will gain experience with hypothesis generation, project design, and ethics in research. Students will receive additional training archiving data in a geospatial database.
Participants will be provided housing, a meal allowance, and a $500/week stipend. The program has a Facebook page.

Chemistry Internship at Sherwin-Williams

The Sherwin-Williams Company currently has three openings for
Chemistry Lab Interns at their Warrensville Heights Research and Development
Center. The program runs for 12 weeks
during the summer, with a schedule of 40 hours per week. Lab assignments will involve working with
a team in the areas of aerosol paint, aerosol chemical, and building materials. Chemistry majors who have completed the
sophomore year with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are encouraged to apply. Applications for these paid internships will
be accepted through March 28, 2013.
